Reading nooks

There’s nothing better than settling down to read a good book. Instead of making do with a plain old sofa, why not create a special place where you can really enjoy it? Whether there’s a large window sill you’re not making use of or a corner of the spare room that isn’t occupied, this is a great way of getting some DIY skills under your belt and creating a space that is all your own.

Making use of a window sill is a great way of adding a relaxing area to your home without taking over any of your space. This nook is the perfect place to sneak off to, and just a couple of cushions has made it a great place to read a book. View not included.

Attic

If you have some space in your home that you just can’t seem to fill, this is a great way to put it to good use. Attic rooms often aren’t utilised, so making a reading nook on the floor surrounded by bookshelves is a great solution.

A nook doesn’t have to be completely different to what you’re used to – just finding a big, comfy armchair to lay back on and stare out the window could be the best way to find the perfect place to take time out. Just make sure there’s no TV or smart phone around to distract you.

If you’re looking for a way to inspire your kids to read, why not create a reading nook with them. It can be as simple as a bean bag on the floor surrounded by books, or you could build a teepee or tent with them where they can settle down with a book.
