Inspiration post: the pantry

September 22nd, 2014 by Debbie

There’s something charming about coming across an unexpected blast from the past. Last week I saw someone riding a Penny Farthing bike in Whitechapel, and I never get bored of old cobbled streets and vintage London buses.

There’s no doubt about it, Autumn is upon us. Out go the summer salads and picnic food, and in come the cans of Heinz soup and crusty bread. This nostalgic season has reminded me of something my Grandma has  – a pantry. Here are a few ideas of how to integrate one into your home…

Convert a corner

Add a few shelves and compartments to an unused corner in your hallway or entry way. It’s a good place to store dry food and can also be somewhere to show off a wine collection – a great idea if you’re running out of space in the kitchen.

Shelve it

This pantry storage from Ikea is a great way of re-creating the concept even if you don’t have a separate storage facility. You can keep it in the kitchen or it would look fantastic in an open plan living room.

Vintage

If you have no way of fitting a real pantry into your kitchen, why not gather together the accessories that are reminiscent of one? These goregous vintage scales, crockery and rolling pins look fantastic and will be a unique way of re-decorating your kitchen.

Under the stairs

I only store junk I never use under my stairway. I love the idea of converting it into an old-fashioned pantry, and I especially like the glass doors and warm light on the inside. It’s perfectly Autumnal and super stylish too.
