Roller Blind Making Service
How it works
As well as making beautiful blinds and blinds in our own fabric, we're also happy to make them in any fabric you provide us with. Use this section to either get a quote or place an order for a making up service using your own fabric. To work out how much fabric you need, use our fabric calculator. If you'd like to use one of our fabrics, please click on the relevant page for the product you're looking to buy.
When you place an order with us for making blinds or blinds using your own fabric, you will receive an email telling you where to send your fabric and confirmation of the amount of fabric to send us.
Please read our measuring instructions before placing an order. All fittings and linings are included in the price. Read about this service in more detail.
Your blind or blind making order consists of two parts – 1) your fabric and 2) our work involved in turning the fabric
into beautiful blinds or blinds.
When you place a making up order you will be sent an email with an order number NCCXXXX
(e.g. NCC9768) and confirmation of the details of where to send your fabric and how much to buy.
We use the
NCCXXXX order number to match your fabric to the making up requirements for the fabric so it is important that
this order number is clearly marked on the package you send to our workshop and on a note you enclose inside.
We suggest enclosing a printed copy of your email order confirmation. This will contain all the information we
need to complete your order. If anything has changed on the order (such as delivery address), please mark it on
the paperwork in your package. If we have any questions, we will call you.
When your fabric arrives, we will check it for flaws and to make sure the right amount has been sent.
If there is a problem at this stage, we will get in touch straight away. Assuming everything is as it should
be, we'll start work on your blinds very shortly after fabric checking.
Your blinds or blinds will be ready in 2 -3
weeks after this point.
Your fabric should be sent to:

Railroaded Fabrics
‘Railroaded’ fabric is a term used for a fabric that has the stripe or pattern design running across the width of the fabric (from one edge of the width to the opposite edge). Normally, striped or patterned fabrics would have the stripe or design running along the length of the fabric, meaning that there would be no maximum drop for your curtains. However, because in the case of railroaded fabrics the total length of the stripe or pattern only runs across the width, it means that there is a maximum drop that your curtains can be without there being a horizontal join in them.
For example, if the railroaded fabric is 280cm wide, the maximum drop for your curtains will be 280cm, minus any fabric required for the top and bottom hems.

The maximum drop for railroaded fabrics will depend on the width of the fabric and the style of heading that you choose (different heading styles use different amounts of fabric for the top and bottom hems).
If you would like to order a railroaded fabric, but your required drop is too long, there are a few options you can choose:
• Join another piece of the same fabric to the bottom of your curtains. This means you’ll have a horizontal join in your curtains. We generally don’t recommend this option as it doesn’t always look very neat.
• Join another piece of a different fabric to the bottom of your curtains. This means you’ll have a horizontal join in your curtains. We would definitely recommend this option. Borders on the bottom of curtains often work very well, and people often request this even when they don’t have to. Our showroom curtains have borders, and they look great!
• Use the fabric the standard way round. This means you won’t have any joins in your curtains, but in the case of stripes, they’ll be horizontal rather than vertical. In the case of patterns, the pattern will be turned around 90 degrees (sometimes this looks OK, sometimes it doesn’t). This option really depends on the individual fabric and your personal preferences
If you’d like to go for any of these options, have an idea of your own or just need help working out how much of a railroaded fabric to order, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
how to measure for roller blinds
We advise using a metal tape measure for accuracy. Measurements should be in cm to the nearest 1/2 cm. Please double-check your measurements.
 |
Note there is a gap of about 1.5cm from the edge of the fabric to the ends of the roller mechanism. If in any doubt about what to do, please call us for advice. |
The three scenarios for measuring roller blinds are:
 |
1. Inside Recess
Make sure that the recess is at least 6cm deep. Otherwise the blind will protrude beyond the recess.
1. You need to measure width A-B. We need this measurement in full; do not reduce it.There will be a gap of about 1.5cm between the fabric and the recess wall which will allow some light through, even with a blackout lining. 2. Measure drop C-D 3. Note which side you would like the chain – right or left
|
 |
2. Outside Recess
Decide on the amount of fabric to overlap the top and sides of the window recess. We recommend at least 5cm for the top and 6.5cm for the sides to minimise light leakage when using a blackout lining.
1. Measure the width A-B 2. Measure the drop C-D 3. Note which side you would like the chain – right or left
|
|

|
3. Fixed to Window Architrave (Frame)
First, decide whether you want your roller blind to hang on the outside or inside of the window architrave.
1. Measure the width A-B 2. Measure the drop C-D
3. Decide which side you would like the chain – right or left

Plain lining
Our standard plain lining is laminated to the back of your fabric to make it flat and stiff so it works well on a roller system. This clever process means you can use almost any curtain or blind material on a simple, modern roller blind system.
Blackout lining
Similar to the plain lining above but a blackout lining will block any light from passing through it. This makes it a perfect choice for a bedroom because it stops the morning sun from disrupting your sleep. It has the added advantage of having good thermal properties so it will keep your room warm and toasty too.

Supersize Samples If you need to see more of your fabric before you buy, you can get a supersize sample (40x40cm) and we'll refund the cost when you return it to us in the pre-paid envelope we provide. If you’re in London, please visit our showroom where you can see larger pieces of fabric and browse our fabric book collections and take away as many samples as you’d like.
Real fabric not plastic We use real fabric when making our roller blinds, so they won’t have a plastic look unlike most roller blinds. The fabric of your choice is laminated onto a lining layer which stiffens it and keeps it flat so it rolls up and down well on the roller mechanism.
Standard Roll and Reverse Roll On a ‘standard’ roll, the fabric rolls off the back of the roll nearer the window pane, with the lining showing on the blind barrel. We recommend you choose ‘standard’ roll if you're concerned about light filtering into the room through the sides of the blinds.
On a ‘reverse’ roll, the fabric rolls off the front of the roll with the fabric showing on the blind barrel. The front of the blind is approximately 6cm from the window. This blind is not suitable if you are concerned about light filtering into the room through the sides of the blind.

I just wanted to let you know how delighted I am with my blinds. They have been made beautifully and fit so well. They were also packaged so well. Thank you very much and I will certainly be recommending you. Lucy H, Basingstoke
The blinds are lovely thank you. So nice to have them with real fabric rather than the more usual plastic stuff. The curtains are also making a huge difference to the warmth of the room they are in. Margaret A, London
Just to say I am delighted with the blind. Very good quality material and finishing and made exactly to the size I asked for. I couldn't be happier. Julia T, Surrey |
