View our measuring instructions where you can print out all the information you need. Here we've condensed our measuring instructions into these easy-to-follow videos. If you go for a pencil or double pleat heading, just measure the eye drop (the distance from the little hook that you thread the curtain hook through on your track or pole to where you want the curtain to fall to) and add on 2cm if you have a pole, or 5cm if you have a track to get your total drop.

Measuring for curtain poles Measuring for curtain tracks

Pencil Pleat
The pencil pleat - our most popular heading - is a simple and versatile heading. If you’re confused by heading choice, this is the one for you. It is smart but relaxed and versatile. You can adjust both the finished width and the height a little which means you might even find a window for them in your next home.  Upon delivery, form the curtain pleats by pulling the heading tape strings at the end.  Our pencil pleats are 3” deep or 6” if your curtains are more than 250cm long.

This heading is suitable for both poles and tracks.

Eyelet
An eyelet heading makes for a clean and contemporary look. As well as looking neat, it takes up very little space when stacked back, making your room seem spacious and modern. The eyelets are available in a range of colours to match your pole and fabric. Our standard 40mm eyelet is satin silver and is suitable for poles up to 35mm diameter.

Please note that this heading is suitable for poles only.

Double Pleat
Think of the double as the relaxed cousin of the triple pleat. It requires less fabric than a triple pleat which means it is less expensive. This may well explain why it’s one of our best sellers.  Our double pleats are 5” deep or 6” if your curtains are more than 250cm long.

This heading is suitable for both poles and tracks.

Other headings
For all other headings, please visit our bespoke curtain section.

Your lining choice is an important part of your purchase.  Our recommendation would be to choose the extra thick thermal or blackout lining if your budget stretches that far.  They represent great value for money and you'll get a better, thicker pair of curtains.

Cotton lining
Our standard single layer cotton lining will protect the fabric from sunlight damage and give some extra body to your curtains.

Thermal lining
A single layer thermal lining is similar to a plain cotton lining above but is coated with an insulating layer to offer extra thermal insulation.

Blackout lining
A single layer blackout lining is similar to a plain cotton lining but it is coated with a blackout layer to keep the light out.  It makes a good choice for a bedroom but it is a also a very good thermal insulator (better than the thermal lining above in fact) and protects your fabric from sun damage, so you get three perks for the price of one. Our blackout lining is white or ivory, not black.

Extra thick thermal lining
Our extra thick thermal lining consists of a cotton lining bonded to a cotton wool-like middle lining. This double layer padded lining will help to keep the heat in and the cold out. Due to its extra weight, it also helps your curtain hang well and look fuller, a major plus point considering the price. In our opinion, these are very good reasons to choose this lining.  A lot of curtain without having to splash out.

Extra thick blackout lining
Our extra thick blackout lining consists of a blackout cotton lining bonded to a cotton wool-like middle lining. This double layer padded lining will block out all light and help to keep the heat in and the cold out. Due to its extra weight, it also helps your curtain hang well and look fuller, a major plus point considering the price. As with the extra thick thermal lining, in our opinion, this is a great buy and a good way to get a great pair of curtains without breaking the bank.

Interlining & other lining options
If you are looking for full interlined curtains, please visit our bespoke curtain section.

There will be an extra charge for this. Alternatively we can also source manufactured flame retardant fabrics for your products - give us a call on 0845 5000 400 to discuss your options.

I am extremely pleased with the curtains, they are made very well and hang beautifully. Also the promptness of service - I ordered on the 26th April and hung up on the day of arrival 11th May, three windows.
Pat O, Suffolk

The material is a good quality, the curtains are extremely well made and the service was very quick (especially since I live in Australia!!). Ordering from abroad I was worried that the curtains would either be slightly too short or too long but your instructions on the website regarding how to measure for curtains were millimetre perfect!
Emma R, Australia

I have been impressed with the whole process and appreciated the text updates for the delivery. I was a bit nervous about ordering curtains online, but you have delivered far above my expectations. I am delighted with them!
Caroline P, Hertfordshire

However you may feel that your curtains need a deep clean after several years, in which case our curtains are dry clean only. This process can shrink the fabrics by up to 3%. If your curtains or blinds are lined with either blackout, thermal or interlining, we are happy to provide care sheets as they will need to be put through a sensitive treatment.
Our curtains or blinds should never go into a washing machine.
Ironing
We strive to deliver your fabric in the best possible condition. However, natural fabrics can crush easily, so there is a minor chance they could be slightly creased on arrival. We recommend you simply hang them up straight away and the creases will disappear before your eyes. Ironing the fabric could be damaging and ruin your curtains.
Stretching
Natural fabrics can stretch over time, especially loose weave linens. This is hardly noticeable unless the length of your curtains or blinds is critical. The added length can be up to 1cm.
Light Fastness and Fading
Our natural fabrics have varying degrees of light fastness depending on the range they are from. The best way to avoid fading and protect the colour of your fabric is to order a lined or interlined curtain.

The safest and most efficient way of cleaning your curtains or blinds is to vacuum them in situ with a clean attachment. However you may feel that your curtains need a deep clean after several years, in which case our curtains are dry clean only. This process can shrink the fabrics by up to 3%.  Our curtains or blinds should never go into a washing machine.

Show the dry cleaner this symbol and they will know which treatment your curtains need.

Triple Pleat
The triple pleat, also known as a French pleat, is the classic formal heading and is perfect for the dining room, main bedrooms or other formal areas. If you want something special, then this is a wise choice.

Our triple pleats are 5” deep or 6” if your curtains are more than 250cm long.

This heading is suitable for both poles and tracks.

Inverted Pleat
The inverted pleat is one of the more contemporary curtain headings. It is a popular choice for its clean, neat look when drawn closed. It does require a lot of fabric to make which makes it more expensive than other headings. Due to the amount of fabric, this heading is not advisable for narrower windows as it needs a lot of space to stack back. It’s worth adding tiebacks to your order to help them stack back neatly.

Our inverted pleats are 5” deep or 6” if your curtains are more than 250cm long.

This heading is suitable for both poles and tracks.

Gathered Pleat
A gathered pleat heading has a simple, relaxed country style. The ruffled top is classic, and makes for an understated finish. You can alter the width by pulling the heading tape to your desired width making it a versatile and practical choice.  It is one of the best value options because it doesn’t need much fabric to make up.  Upon delivery, form the pleats by pulling the heading tape strings at the end.

Our gathered pleats are 2.5cm (1”) deep.

Tab Tops
Our tab top headings are the simplest headings of all. The only word of warning is that they are not advised for curtains which will be drawn regularly since they do not move along poles as easily as other curtain headings.

Our standard tab measures 7cm wide by 10cm deep, and they fit all poles up to 35mm in diameter. If you have a larger pole, we are happy to enlarge the tabs accordingly – just call us.

Please note that this heading is suitable for poles only.

The Classic.

French pleat or triple pleat is a smart formal classic heading.   The curtain falls into very elegant folds that can be easily dressed.

Our standard triple pleats are 5” deep. If your curtains are very long, we'll make the pleat 6" to keep the proportions of your curtains perfect.

Suitable for both poles and tracks.

A more relaxed cousin of the triple pleat.

Traditional but a little less formal than the triple pleat, our standard double pleats are 5” deep.  If your curtains are very long, we'll make the pleat 6" to keep the proportions of your curtains perfect.

Suitable for both poles and tracks.

Smart, formal and a little out of the ordinary. With its minimalist front face, this makes for a modern, contemporary look.

Just enter the total drop that you'd like your curtains to be, including your heading height. If you've got a pole, we'll take 2cm heading height from the total drop you give us. If you've got a track we'll take 5cm. Read more about our measuring instructions here.

Interlining & other lining options
If you are looking for full interlined curtains, please visit our bespoke curtain section

To work out which size made to measure curtain you need to order, first measure either the total width of your track, or the total width of your pole between the two finials (the decorative bits at the ends of the pole). Once you have the measurement, choose the size that your width falls between and we'll make sure your curtains fit perfectly. Please be aware that the width ranges will change depending on which heading you choose.

If your pole or track width is on the cusp of two different sizes, we recommend you go for the smaller size if you'd like less gathered curtains (often preferred for eyelet heading), or the larger size if you'd like fuller, more traditional curtains (advisable if you're opting for a pencil or double pleat heading).
